JeepNewsNow has posted an advanced listing of colors for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. In that list, there is not an orange or orange variant. I am not overly concerned, as a Wrangler Unlimited will not be the type of Jeep that I ultimately end up with, but I think it is a bad move. Orange Jeeps are definitely the best Jeeps. At least I think so.

JeepNewsNow is reporting that the four door Jeep Wrangler may not hit dealerships until January of 2007. I don’t think that this will be the case though. The Jeep home page is currently reporting a fall 2006 availability date. The regular version of the Wrangler simply says coming soon. I’m hoping that it is later rather than sooner, so that I might save up more of my pennies and maybe garner some more donations. I had hoped to be first in line, but since I can’t decide which year to try for, it’s not of utter importance anymore.

When an auto manufacturer creates a new model, those vehicles typically have many issues when first released. I have started to face a dilemma in my mind that I just can’t make a decision on. When the 2007 Jeep Wrangler is released this fall, should I be an early adopter, or should I wait until the 2008 Jeep Wrangler comes to market?

I was able to find this page, which overviews the reliability of 1997 – 2005 Jeep Wranglers. It seems that Jeep did handle the transition fairly well from the YJ to the TJ, but I could be mistaken. If I am, please correct me.

The other thing that I was considering, would be to go to a Jeep dealership after the 2007s have been released and try for a great deal on a 2006 TJ. That would save me a lot of money for sure. More than likely, I will be paying for this Jeep on my own. The donations have been a great help, but raising $30,000 may not be realistic.

Wescast will be supplying the manifolds for the 3.8 liter version of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. This is starting to get exciting. The new 2007 Jeep Wrangler should be soon appearing in the dealerships. Okay, maybe it is still a few months off, but this is very exciting. Don’t forget to donate to the cause, if you haven’t done so already.

Wescast Industries Inc. (“Wescast”)(TSX:WCS.SV.A) announced today that it has been chosen by the Chrysler Group to supply cast iron exhaust manifolds for its new Jeep® engine program and has also been sourced additional content on the Chrysler Group’s minivan program.

Beginning in the second quarter of 2006, Wescast will provide the Chrysler Group with cast manifolds for the 3.8-litre V-6 Jeep Wrangler engine program and will increase its content on the 3.3/3.8-litre Dodge Caravan, Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country program.

“We are delighted to have entered into this new business with the Chrysler Group,” said Ed Frackowiak, Chairman and CEO of Wescast. “This solidifies our long-term relationship with the Chrysler Group and strengthens our leadership position in the supply of exhaust manifolds to the North American automotive market.”

The Jeep Wrangler’s current not-so-good fuel economy is made possible by the wonderful gas mileage of the PT Cruiser. Under current federal regulations, all models sold by a car manufacturer are lumped together to determine if they are meeting the current EPA fuel economy guidelines. Because the PT Cruiser is a sipper, and not too many other Chrysler made vehicles are gas hogs, the Wrangler is allowed to get 16-18 miles to the gallon. But all of this will change in the future.

With the new rules changes passed by the department of transportation a few weeks ago, each individual car model will be forced to comply with federal regulations. What does this mean? It means that in 2011 the Jeep Wrangler will be forced to obtain a 28 mpg fuel economy rating. That’s not too shabby, but it is quite possible that in 2011 all of our vehicles will be powered by ethanol or something else.

Because the Cruiser gets strong gas mileage, the sport-utility vehicles with poorer fuel economy can squeak by the government’s mileage standards for a fleet.

But that is about to change.

The U.S. Department of Transportation issued rules six weeks ago that, after 2010, require vehicle-specific mileage standards. Until then, the company can choose to follow individual vehicle standards or use fleet rules.
