Autoweek took a couple 2007 Jeep Wrangler Rubicons to Africa to see if they were tough enough. To no surprise, the vehivles met the challenge head on with only a few 90 degree snags.

The Jeep Wrangler teetered on the cliff’s edge, its nose dangling over one boulder and aiming squarely at a mountain’s worth more. A few folks had scattered around the steep, 90-degree right-hander the Wrangler had just shot through—or, rather, over—variously pointing, crouching or standing with hands on hips, apparently trying to deduce the best way to get the trucklet back on all fours. No one looked overly concerned—at least the concern was not tangible from the vantage point a couple of hundred feet below.

 

The Boston Globe has posted a nice review of the 2007 Jeep Compass. Overall they give the new vehicle a nice review, though they do question the inability to go offroad with the Compass.

Personally, I think that a high mileage on road vehicle could prove a boon for Jeep who needs a vehicle that can offset lagging sales of the bigger more gas hungry vehicles.

 

Camp Jeep is going on right now in souther Florida. If it weren’t for the fact that we live in the Northeast, we may have stopped by. This isn’t really a true Camp Jeep, but rather a chance for potential new owners of Jeeps to take some of the new models on a test drive in Miami.

Camp Jeep is bringing the rugged mountain path to the Miami Beach Convention Center this year, offering consumers test drives in its new models on an obstacle course meant to show that its Jeeps can, in fact, do what they appear to in TV commercials. It’s one of many new attractions at the 36th annual auto show, which opens this evening and runs through Oct. 15.

Everyone new that this was coming. Jeep sales are down. Chrysler did try to put a positive spin on the announcement, but that is difficult to do when looking at the numbers. Since gas was slightly over 3 dollars a gallon for the most of the summer, that doesn’t make many people run out and buy new SUVs. With a mild winter forecasted, the numbers may not get much better for the Chrysler Group. Press release after the jump. Continue reading »
