There are rumors that the employess of Chrysler are working on a plan to buy 70% of their company from DaimlerChrysler.

The head of United Auto Workers (UAW) said the union has reviewed a proposal made by a group of Chrysler of employees to acquire a 70 pct stake in the company through an employee stock ownership plan, Detroit News reported on Saturday.

UAW president Ron Gettelfinger told WJR Radio in Detroit on Friday that the UAW has not ruled out the employees’ proposal, the newspaper reported.

Cummins has announced it will supply 4.2-liter V6 and 5.6-liter clean diesel engines to DaimlerChrysler for light-duty vehicles. We can get an early look at the potential of such deal at SEMA next week when Jeep shows off a custom Wrangler Unlimited from the Mopar Skunkwerkes group. This teaser email I received says it’s powered by a 4.2-liter diesel. Code named 50 JK, the hardtop Jeep features custom bumpers, 4-inch lift, 35-inch tires, carbon-fiber hood, Dana 44 axles front and rear, GPS and full saddle leather. This one’s sure to be “Trail Rated.” All totaled, Chrysler will have 65 vehicles on display at SEMA. Wonder how many will be boasting fuel efficiency?

Considered by some as the birthplace of the sport-utility vehicle, the former site of the Toledo Jeep assembly plant is for sale.

DaimlerChrysler AG has listed the 111-acre site at Central Avenue and North Cove Boulevard in North Toledo with the Southfield, Mich., office of Equis Corp., which specializes in corporate real estate transactions.
Brian Piergentili, of Equis, yesterday referred questions to the car maker in Auburn Hills, Mich. Officials there didn’t return calls for comment.

But someone familiar with the parcel, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the company will seek $6.7 million to $8.9 million. It hopes to get $60,000 an acre if the land is sold as a single block and $80,000 an acre if it is divided, the source said.
