The [2007 Jeep Wrangler is being recalled](http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,296853,00.html “Recall 2007 Jeep Wrangler”) for brake issues. This is the first, and hopefully the only recall for the newly redesigned Wrangler.

>Chrysler, which was taken private by Cerberus Capital Management in a $7.4-billion deal last month, said it is recalling 296,550 sport utility vehicles for the brake-related problem.
>
>The vehicles affected include Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Commander SUVs for the 2006 and 2007 model years and the 2007 Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro.

Issues like these are to be expected in models that feature new technology. This is why you never purchase a first year model.

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited CRD (only available in the UK) scores a [whopping 28mpg](http://www.jeep.co.uk/jeep/pdf/wranglervsdefender.pdf “UK Wrangler CRD”). That’s huge, and if it were available in the US, I guarantee that Jeep wouldn’t be able to keep them on dealer lots.

The only questions are when, and if Jeep will ever bring this model to the United States. I think it would be silly of them not to, but there are probably reasons that would prevent this, that we don’t know. Either way, it will be exciting to watch it unfold.

Chrysler has landed the gentleman who helped Toyota become the second largest automaker in America.

>Chrysler LLC hired Jim Press to lead its sales and marketing, luring away the executive who helped propel Toyota Motor Corp. to No. 2 in the U.S. auto market.

Robert Nardelli the CEO of Chrysler has [said that the Jeep brand is safe](http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070907/UPDATE/709070437&imw=Y “Jeep Brand”). Of all of the Chrysler brands, I would think getting rid of the Jeep brand wouldn’t even have been an option.

>Chrysler LLC CEO Robert Nardelli said today that the automaker has no plans to drop any of the Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep brands, but hinted that some individual vehicles could be vulnerable. He didn’t name specific models.

Since Jeep is the one brand that is actually making Chrysler money, dropping the brand would be ludicrous. Getting rid of the Chrysler or Dodge brands, or consolidating the two could be beneficial, but dropping some of the cars, like the Compass and the Commander could also be money savers.

BusinessWeek has reviewed the 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlmited. I am pretty sure that the reviewer had never been in a Wrangler before, but overall it is a good review.

>Jeep’s four-door Wrangler Unlimited is a real pain. It’s slow, noisy, and guzzles gas. The old-fashioned upright windshield attracts more bugs than Internet Explorer, and the spare tire, which is mounted on the rear of the vehicle, limits visibility through the back window, making parking a chore. Then there’s the removable soft top. I spent several hours trying to master the one on the Sahara Unlimited I test-drove and never did get it up or down in less than 15 minutes.
