16.92% is a huge number for Daimler Chrysler. That 16.92 is the number of young Americans that hope for a Jeep Wrangler to appear on their doorstep like myself. It is the most desired vehicle amongst the 18-24 age group, a group that most advertisers would give a kidney for access to.

I am slightly older than the crowd that rates the Jeep Wrangler as the most desirable vehicle to acquire, but it is not by much. I can fully understand their appeal for the Jeep Wrangler, but I question their motives.

Would the Jeep Wrangler make them cooler? Or would they like to go play in the mud? My main desire for a Jeep is that I want to play in the mud, but for them I think that the coolness factor holds the most weight for them.

In this survey conducted by an extremely reputable firm (CNW), 1.28 percent of the respondents currently looking for a used car would consider “any Saab” as a possible purchase. Now, this number won’t seem like much until you consider that the vehicle with the highest rating, the Jeep Wrangler, only scored 16.92 percent.

Now, if only I could tap in that 16.92% and get them to donate to the cause.

Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS) and the Jeep ® brand announced today that they have signed a deal that will give gamers a chance to experience Jeep vehicles in Medal of Honor Airborne™ as they were found in World War II. The classic Willys-Overland Jeep will appear for extended, action-packed sequences in several missions of Medal of Honor Airborne.

Medal of Honor Airborne is the newest installment from EA’s critically-acclaimed Medal of Honor™ franchise which was credited with pioneering the First-Person Shooter (FPS) WWII genre when it debuted in 1999, and is the best selling WWII FPS franchise of all time. By fully controlling the airdrop from the very first step through landing, Medal of Honor Airborne adds a new dimension of player choice by letting the player decide where every mission begins and how it plays out. Building on the key tenets of the franchise including historical accuracy, research, and authenticity, for the first time Medal of Honor Airborne will include fully player-drivable vehicles, including the Willys Jeep.

Jeep played an integral role in the war effort as an indispensable tool in tracking the enemy, exchanging information and moving troops. Over 350,000 Willys Jeep vehicles were built and used during WWII, and at one point the assembly line was pushing out one vehicle every 90 seconds. When driving a Willys Jeep in Medal of Honor Airborne, the player can choose to use it as a mode of transportation, or as a mobile attack platform taking full advantage of a variety of mounted weapons. Authentic to their use in WWII, the Willys Jeep will be able to access more areas than the other drivable vehicles featured in Medal of Honor Airborne, because of Jeep vehicle’s superior four-wheel drive off-road capabilities.

“Video games are quickly becoming the medium of choice for a new generation of consumers and Chrysler Group has been at the forefront of this exciting revolution,” said Jay Kuhnie, Director – Jeep Communications, Chrysler Group. “By teaming with Electronic Arts and Medal of Honor Airborne, Jeep is celebrating its history while helping to take this medium to its next level.”

“The Medal of Honor Airborne experience begins with unprecedented freedom of approach from the air. With the addition of the Willys Jeep, that freedom continues on the ground, on road and off, and in combat scenarios of all types.” explained Patrick Gilmore, VP and Executive Producer at EALA. “This is the first time in any Medal of Honor game that a player will have the ability to drive a Willys Jeep, and we’re very excited to see this new addition increase the fun and intensity of the gameplay.â€?

Today, we were in beautiful Mystic, CT. While there I noticed one obvious thing. Everyone in Mystic drives a Jeep. Well, not everyone, but a lot of people in Mystic drive a Jeep. By Jeep, I mean Jeep Wrangler. In the span of 15 minutes, I must have seen 15 to 20 drive by the eatery where we were having dinner.

If you could have a hybrid Jeep or a diesel Jeep which would you choose? Would you go for the gas vehicle that only showed a modest gain in fuel economy while, more than likely loosing torque and making going off road nearly impossible? Or would you go for a diesel Jeep that may not have much better fuel efficiency than gas models, but may very well provide better low end torque and the ability to run off of french fry grease?

I think that the answer to that question is pretty simple. Hybrids are great vehicles if you can fit into a Prius. Some of us, namely myself are simply too large to fit into the hybrids that can obtain 60 miles to the gallon. Those hybrids are useful, they serve a purpose. The hybrids that only average 10 more miles per gallon do not. Considering the amount of lost power of a hybrid, you may be better off with the basic gas version of a vehicle. This is especially true when talking about Jeeps. A hybrid Jeep simply would not give you enough power.

A diesel Jeep on the other hand would serve two purposes. First, a driver of a diesel Jeep would not be robbed of the much needed power that driving off road requires. I may be mistaken, but diesels provide better low end torque than regular gas models. The second benefit is of a grander scale. By purchasing a diesel Jeep (note to Jeep: sell diesels in America), one could fill the tank with biodiesel. This may not save you very much money, but it would be a step towards alternative fuel sources.

With summer approaching the desire for a Jeep Wrangler is growing every day. The desire to drive down the highway with no top (on the Jeep, not my belly) is reaching a fever pitch. The debate of whether to purchase a 2006 on the cheap or a 2007 continues. More than likely, I’ll be going for a 2006 on the cheap. It will make it much easier for me to make the needed goal. I am going to start pinching my pennies and devise a way to obtain said Jeep. Now the question becomes, do I go for a 2006 Sport, Rubicon or Unlimited? The decisions are oh so confusing. I like the Sport, purely for the price if anything else. The Rubicon would also be a great purchase, but it may be too much cash for myself. You could always donate, and help out if you so choose.
