Diesel Success

KABC the ABC affiliate in Los Angeles has posted an article detailing the success of Jeep sales with diesel engines in Europe.

In Europe, diesels make up about half of new passenger car sales, since fuel costs about twice what ours does. Technology has made diesels more powerful and far cleaner than the ones American drivers may have remembered from years ago. And they keep getting better.

Chrysler has had great success selling Jeep SUVs in Europe with diesel engines. The Grand Cherokee has plenty of power, but can get very good fuel economy at the same time. Best of all, a driver can hardly tell the difference.

Hopefully with their strong sales in Europe, Daimler will see that bringing a diesel wrangler to the States would be a boon for them. I think that the market is wide open, especially for future Jeep owners. We all love Jeep, and would probably drive Jeeps no matter what, but to be able to save a little gas with a diesel engine would be a dream for all of us.
